Our Impact

Creating Friendship, Connection and Community Across East Sussex

Since 2018, Just Friends has helped hundreds of people who live on their own build friendships, enjoy new experiences and become part of welcoming local communities.

What began as a single group founded by Frederick Smith has grown into a thriving charity supporting more than 800 members across East Sussex.

Every conversation, social gathering, activity, lunch, wellbeing session and day trip creates opportunities for people to connect, feel valued and enjoy life alongside others.

More Than Friendship

Friendship and community can have a positive impact on many areas of life.

Members often tell us that being part of Just Friends gives them:

  • Something to look forward to
  • Greater confidence
  • New friendships
  • Increased social connection
  • A stronger sense of belonging
  • Opportunities to remain active and engaged in their community

For many people, Just Friends becomes an important part of their weekly routine and social life.

Supporting Social Inclusion

Just Friends exists to help people who live on their own build friendships, participate in their communities and feel connected to the people and places around them.

Through regular social gatherings, activities, wellbeing sessions and day trips, we create opportunities for social inclusion, community participation and meaningful relationships across East Sussex.

Our work helps people remain connected, engaged and involved in their local communities, supporting our charitable objective of promoting social inclusion and helping people become part of society through activities and services.

Supporting Health and Wellbeing

We know that social connection plays an important role in overall well-being.

By creating opportunities for people to meet others, participate in activities and build friendships, Just Friends helps people stay connected to their communities and maintain meaningful social relationships.

Our local groups provide welcoming spaces where people can share experiences, enjoy conversation and support one another through life’s ups and downs.

Supporting Stronger Communities

Just Friends is proud to contribute to wider efforts across East Sussex to build healthier, more connected communities.

Research and public health evidence consistently show that social connection, community participation and a sense of belonging are important contributors to wellbeing, resilience and quality of life.

By creating opportunities for friendship, participation and community involvement, Just Friends helps people remain connected and engaged in the places where they live.

We regularly work alongside:
